Video: Wall Passing Soccer Workout - Improve First Touch Football Training by DJ Diveny
Pass into the wall, move one step, then control the rebound before the next pass.
Setup
Choose a flat, safe surface and a wall that can take repeated soft passes. Start close enough that the child can pass without swinging hard. If the wall is rough, use a softer ball or move to a smoother rebound surface.
Steps
- Stand 2-4 metres from a safe wall or rebound surface.
- Pass with the inside of the foot and move one step sideways.
- Control the rebound with the first touch.
- Pass again after the ball is under control.
- After five good passes, switch direction so the child moves both ways.
Coaching points
- Point the standing foot at the target.
- Take the first touch out of the feet.
- Keep the head up before the next pass.
- Use a calm pass before asking for a faster pass.
Common mistakes
- Standing still after the pass.
- Letting the first touch roll too far away.
- Kicking with power before the body is balanced.
- Watching only the ball and never checking the target.
Make it easier
Move closer to the wall and allow the child to stop the ball before passing again. Count clean contacts instead of speed.
Make it harder
Ask for two-touch passing, alternate feet, or call a direction before each rebound so the first touch has to move the ball into space.
How to know it is working
The drill is working when the child can make 8-10 passes without chasing the ball, and the first touch usually stays within one step.
Safety
Do not use a wall near windows, parked cars, pets, or people walking through the space. Stop if the child starts kicking harder than the space allows.
