Solo Ball Mastery Ladder

A short solo routine for building comfortable touches with the inside, outside, and sole of both feet.

How to set it up
INSIDE, SOLE, OUTSIDEKEEP THE BALL CLOSE

Work through small inside, sole, and outside touches around the body, then repeat the pattern with the other foot.

Setup

Use a clear patch of level ground where the ball cannot roll into traffic, furniture, or other people. Work in short rounds with the ball close to the feet.

Steps

  1. Tap the ball gently between the insides of the feet.
  2. Roll the sole across the ball and stop it.
  3. Use the outside of one foot to move around the body.
  4. Repeat the sequence with the other foot.
  5. Finish with 30 seconds of free controlled touches.

Coaching points

  • Keep the ball within one step.
  • Relax the ankles.
  • Look up for one short glance each round.
  • Change the pattern before control disappears.

Common mistakes

  • Making the touches too fast.
  • Locking the ankles.
  • Standing on top of the ball while off balance.
  • Continuing after the touches become wild.

Make it easier

Use only inside touches and allow the player to stop between patterns.

Make it harder

Call a new surface every five touches or add a turn after each pattern.

How to know it is working

The player can complete the sequence with both feet while keeping the ball close and posture relaxed.

Safety

Use a clear, non-slip surface and stop if the player loses awareness of people or objects nearby.

Next practice

Pick one short session. Stop while the child still wants another turn.
