A simple setup view for this drill.
Setup
Make two gates a few metres apart. The player passes with the weaker foot, follows the ball around the marker, and receives the return on the same side before switching.
Steps
- Start close enough for a comfortable pass.
- Pass with the weaker foot into the partner's feet.
- Run around the marker after the pass.
- Receive the return with the weaker foot when possible.
- Finish with a stronger-foot round so the session ends well.
Coaching points
- Use a quiet swing.
- Point the standing foot at the target.
- Move after the pass.
- Count clean choices, not just goals or scores.
Common mistakes
- Starting too far away.
- Kicking harder when the pass misses.
- Making the weaker foot a punishment.
- Skipping the stronger-foot reset at the end.
Make it easier
Let the player stop the return before passing again.
Make it harder
Add a passive defender or require the first touch to move across the body.
How to know it is working
The player can complete several weaker-foot passes and keep moving without the ball becoming a source of frustration.
Safety
Keep the distance short and the running lane free of loose balls.
