Give Them One Safe Dribble

A nervous child does not need a highlight move. They need one dribble that protects the ball and gets them balanced.

Name The First Job

Try: catch, chin up, one strong bounce, then pass. That gives the child a plan before the defender arrives.

Practise With Soft Pressure

At home, stand nearby as a passive defender. Let the child take one dribble away from you, stop, and pass. Keep the pressure gentle.

Do Not Count Only Attacks

A brave rep might be catching the ball, looking up, or taking one controlled bounce. Notice that. Game confidence is built in tiny pieces.

Use The Weak Hand Quietly

Weak-hand work helps, but do not announce it like a weakness. Make it part of the normal routine for two or three minutes.

After The Game

Avoid asking why they did not dribble more. Ask which moment felt crowded, then rebuild that moment slowly at the next practice.

Common questions

Why can my child dribble in practice but not games?

Games add defenders, noise, and decisions. Start with one safe dribble under light pressure before asking for longer attacks.

Should I tell my child to be more aggressive?

Not as the first cue. Give a specific action, such as one strong bounce and a balanced pass.
