A simple setup view for this drill.
Setup
Make a small channel with an exit gate at one end. The attacker receives with a defender close behind but passive, protects the ball, turns when there is space, and dribbles through the gate.
Steps
- Receive with the body between the ball and defender.
- Use the arm for balance without pushing.
- Feel the defender's position before turning.
- Turn toward the open side.
- Dribble through the exit gate under control.
Coaching points
- Keep the ball on the far foot.
- Use a strong, balanced stance.
- Turn when the exit is visible, not just because the defender is close.
- Protect first, accelerate second.
Common mistakes
- Turning into the defender.
- Standing tall over the ball.
- Using the arm to push.
- Trying a fancy turn before the body is balanced.
Make it easier
Make the defender passive and widen the exit gate.
Make it harder
Let the defender apply light pressure or add two possible exit gates.
How to know it is working
The attacker can keep the ball for three seconds, turn away from pressure, and exit without a panicked kick.
Safety
Keep contact light and stop the drill if players start barging or sliding.
