Figure-Eight Ball Wraps

A no-dribble ball-handling drill that helps kids move the ball around the legs while staying balanced.

How to set it up
CONTROL THE NEXT ACTION

A simple setup view for this drill.

Setup

Stand in a wide, balanced stance with enough room to move the ball around both legs. Start slowly and keep the eyes forward for short glances only when control is steady.

Steps

  1. Stand with feet wider than the shoulders.
  2. Move the ball around one leg, then through the middle.
  3. Wrap the ball around the other leg to make a figure-eight path.
  4. Reverse direction after five clean wraps.
  5. Finish by freezing with the ball protected near the hip.

Coaching points

  • Stay low without folding over.
  • Use the fingertips, not a slap.
  • Keep the ball close to the legs.
  • Slow down before the ball drops.

Common mistakes

  • Racing the wraps and losing posture.
  • Standing with the feet too narrow.
  • Looking down for the whole drill.
  • Continuing after the ball starts dropping every repetition.

Make it easier

Wrap around one leg at a time before connecting the full figure-eight.

Make it harder

Add one controlled dribble after every full wrap or ask for three eyes-up glances.

How to know it is working

The child can complete several wraps in each direction while staying balanced and protecting the ball.

Safety

Use a clear floor or driveway space where a dropped ball cannot hit fragile objects or roll into traffic.

Next practice

Pick one short session. Stop while the child still wants another turn.
