The Whole Plan

A good 10-minute basketball practice at home has three blocks: stationary control, slow movement, and one clean stop or pass.

Choose The Right Space

A driveway or safe hard floor is enough for dribbling and footwork. A wall can help passing. A hoop is useful, but it is not required for every short practice.

Try This Tonight

Use three minutes of Pound Dribble Holds, three minutes of Left Hand Walk And Bounce, two minutes of Jump Stop Freeze, and one minute of a small challenge.

End With Something Makeable

A good finish might be ten controlled bounces, five left-hand bounces, and one balanced stop. Avoid ending with a long-distance shot that turns the session sour.

What To Watch

Look for a lower stance, a ball that stays near the hip, a cleaner weak-hand attempt, and fewer extra steps after stopping.

When To Change The Plan

If the ball is flying away, remove speed. If the child is bored, add a marker call or short score. If the space feels unsafe, switch to ball wraps or form reps.

Common questions

Can kids practise basketball at home without a hoop?

Yes. Ball handling, dribbling, footwork, passing, and shooting form can all improve without a basket.

Should a short basketball practice include weak-hand work?

Yes, but keep it short and normal. A few weak-hand minutes every practice usually beat one long punishment block.
