Low Finish Across Goal

A finishing pattern that teaches a player to carry the ball inside and place a low shot away from the goalkeeper.

How to set it up
CARRY INSIDELOW, FAR CORNER

Carry inside, take one touch into the shooting lane, and place a low finish toward the far corner.

Setup

Place a starting marker outside the penalty area and a second marker in the channel. The feeder rolls the ball into the attacker's path so the shot can be taken after one touch across the body.

Steps

  1. Carry the ball toward the inside marker.
  2. Take one touch across the body into the shooting lane.
  3. Plant the standing foot beside the ball.
  4. Shoot low toward the far corner.
  5. Collect the ball and repeat from the other side.

Coaching points

  • Look at the target before the touch.
  • Keep the last touch close enough to shoot.
  • Strike through the middle of the ball.
  • Choose placement before power.

Common mistakes

  • Taking too many touches.
  • Leaning back at contact.
  • Shooting across the body without a target.
  • Turning every repetition into a full-power kick.

Make it easier

Remove the feeder and let the player start with a stationary ball.

Make it harder

Add a passive defender or require the player to finish with the weaker foot.

How to know it is working

The player can take a controlled touch into the lane and keep low shots inside the far half of the goal.

Safety

Use a safe goal, check that nobody is behind the target, and stagger repetitions so players are not in the shooting lane.

Next practice

Pick one short session. Stop while the child still wants another turn.
