Use The Wall Like A Teammate

A good wall is not glamorous, but it tells the truth quickly. If the pass is clean, the return is easier. If the pass is rushed, the next touch gets harder.

Draw A Target

Use a chalk box, a cone gate, or a spot on the wall. The target should be big enough that the child can hit it often, then smaller once the contact settles.

Move After The Pass

Passing alone should still include movement. Pass, step sideways, receive, then pass again. That tiny movement stops the drill becoming a statue exercise.

Add The Weak Foot Carefully

Use the weaker foot for short rounds, not a long punishment block. Five calm contacts can be enough at first.

Count Good Rhythm

Count passes that arrive under control. Do not only count hard passes. A young player needs to learn that a useful pass is one a teammate could actually play.

Stop Before The Wall Wins

When the ball starts flying away, shorten the distance or finish. Solo practice should leave the child willing to come back tomorrow.

Common questions

Can a child practise passing alone?

Yes. Wall passing can build contact, first touch, movement after the pass, and weak-foot confidence.

What if there is no safe wall?

Use a parent target, a rebounder, or a soft ground pass into a cone gate. Avoid fragile surfaces and shared walking areas.
